 About Me

Lipowski_Linda213.JPGI have spoken Spanish fluently for over 20 years. I began my journey in a little Mennonite College in North Newton, Kansas, studied abroad in Mexico my last year of college, and decided to stay and live there for a few years. This is my second year teaching Spanish at St. Mary's. It is so much fun to watch them grow and have fun learning another language and culture. We use the natural approach, which teaches them communicative Spanish.

Vocabulary

Having a broad vocabulary is the secret to success at learning a language. Vocabulary words should be studied at least 3 times a week.

Links

Quizlet is a great tool to practice vocabulary and is often assigned as homework. Students should be spending a minimum of 15 minutes 3 times a week.

Google Classroom is often where students will find assignments.

Senor Wooly is often assigned in class and out. It is a fun, energetic way to reinforce concepts. You will find Senor Wooly products and graphic novels in the classroom.  Students need to see me for their account information.

Homework

Homework reinforces concepts learned in class and is vital to their success in this course. The first few weeks will be spent reviewing vocabulary and grammar learned in class and then will expand to include reading, writing and audio.  Homework should not take more than 15 minutes except before exams. If you find it is taking more than that please contact me.

Traveling Abroad

photo_uxmal.jpgSpanish is about more than the language. We also celbrate hispanic holidays often in a religious context and explore hispanic culture in many different ways. Last summer the 8th graders visited the Mayan Riveria. They learned history, language and even a little Mayan during their travels. It was an exceptional experience!
